Black entrepreneur builds a $100 million company: Brandon Young, an African American entrepreneur from Birmingham, Alabama, transformed personal tragedy into business success. After his brother was murdered in 2019, he founded Young Management & Consulting, which has since grown into a $100 million company with more than 120 employees.
That year, Young’s brother, Randy, was shot and killed outside a Trussville restaurant during a parking dispute. The devastating loss pushed Young to take a new direction. Instead of staying in his job, he built his own business.
“I used the pain to fuel the fire,” Young told AL.com. “I could either give up or keep going and try to make an impact.”
The company specialises in project management, construction management, and strategic consulting. Young credits the success to his diverse team of over 120 professionals and a focus on workforce innovation and collaboration.
Raised in Centre Point, Young graduated from Erwin High School before earning degrees from Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His background in construction management helped lay the foundation for his firm’s services.
Looking ahead, Young aims to make his company a billion-dollar global supplier. He says the mission extends beyond profit, with a goal of impacting lives and inspiring other entrepreneurs in Birmingham and beyond.
“People in Birmingham are impacting the world, and the world needs to know that people from Birmingham are truly delivering,” Young said. “There are opportunities, and people from Alabama raise and grow great people who make an impact around the world.”
